Van Meer

Russell A. Sherwood, age 73, of Cheboygan, Michigan and formerly of Munising and Van Meer, died on Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013 at a family member’s home in Van Meer under the care of North Woods Hospice. He was born on May 2, 1939 in Munising to Alexander and Frances Sherwood. Russell grew up in Munising and worked in the woods as a lumberjack. He also worked around the state of Michigan as a caregiver for many years. Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, taking road trips, and especially family gatherings.

He is survived by four children – Joe (Jackie McGee) Sherwood of Van Meer, Dean (Tracy) Sherwood of Munising, Mike (Kim) Sherwood of Cheboygan, MI, and Russ Sherwood of New Mexico; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Kenny Sherwood of Marquette; sisters Lucille Livermore and Pauline Gilbertson of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Rosetta Sherwood, brother Jimmy Syers, an infant sister and sisters July Lloyd and Nora Sherwood, and great-granddaughter Tori Belle Hill.

A private memorial service will take place.
