Grand Marais
Adele Mary Ann Barney, age 81, of Grand Marais, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living & Memory Care in Marquette where she was living the last four years. She was born on April 6, 1931 to the late Russell and Orilla (Nantel) Mulligan. Adele graduated from Grand Maris High School in 1949. She married Mark Richard Barney on April 1, 1952, and together they raised their four children. They were married for fifty-four years when Mark preceded her in death in 2006. Adele enjoyed agate hunting, puzzles, spending time with grandchildren, baking her well known dinner rolls, and riding in the woods with Mark. She was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais where she helped with many lunch committees and as a BINGO caller.
She is survived by her four children - Mark "Butch" Barney, Gary (Kathi) Barney, John Barney, and Cindy (Dennis) Elliott; six grandchildren - Penny (Seth Hoopingarner) Barney, Brooke (Ryan) Whaley, Brenna (Jason) LaBeau, Trisha (Scott) Saul, Elsbeth (Jason) Heyboer, and Chase Elliott; five great-grandchildren - Paige, Blaine, Dillan, Jacob, and Brody; siblings - Lorraine Letcher, Michael (Jane) Mulligan, and Valerie (Alan) Fyvie; brothers-in-law - Tom Russell and Robert Ellis; sisters-in-law - Joan Mulligan and Edith Ray Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband - Mark; parents - Russell and Orilla; brothers - Richard and Pat Mulligan; sisters - Beatrice Ellis, Shirley Russell, Faye (Phil) Beaune; and brother-in-law - Larry Miller.
Adele's visitation will be on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais. Fr. Tim Hruska will celebrate Adele's Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
