Aino (pronounced "Ina") Elizabeth Schultz, age 95, of Grand Marais, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee. She was born on October 10, 1913 in Grand Marais, Michigan to Matt and Ida (Koski) Olli, who were first generation from Finland.
Aino graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1930 and from Bronson Methodist Nurses Training Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI in 1936.
She is survived by her sole child, son Rodney Schultz of Gwinn; four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren who are: Jennifer Krause of Negaunee, parents of Justin Schultz of Ishpeming, Mathew Krause and Alyssa Tremble; Brenda (Tim) Krause of Negaunee, parents of Chloe Krause and Emma Krause; Heather Schultz of Temecula, CA, parents of Monica Schultz-Martinez; and Mandy Schultz of Escanaba. She is also survived by three sisters: Helen Peano of Marquette; Ruth Lator of St. Johns, MI, and Ellen Heiss of Sand Lake, MI, as well as one brother, Andrew Olli of Marquette, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Aino was preceded in death by her husband Raymond F. Schultz in 1991, also by five brothers Wayne, Toivo , Irving , Arvi, and Vilho Olli; and five sisters: Rose Bush, Lillian Fine, Gertrude Brunsman, Marion Coulston, and Siama Bugg.
Aino and Ray's love of flower and vegetable gardening over their many years together are amongst the fond memories of them held by their families and devoted friends.
Grave side services will be on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
