Alice Mildred (Bovan) Rousseau, age 100, died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Menominee, Michigan on Monday morning, October 4, 2021. She was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Marquette on July 28, 1921 to Dolph and A. Winifred (Doucette) Bovan. Alice grew up in Forest Lake and attended school there. Her family moved to AuTrain, and she graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. During school, Alice excelled as a seamstress, and she won awards and a scholarship through 4-H. Alice married Joseph Rousseau, Jr. on March 23, 1941. She was a homemaker and raised their six children as Joe’s teaching career took the family to Munising, Newberry, and Lansing. When Joe retired, they moved to AuTrain and were faithful members of St. Therese Catholic Church. Alice continued her talents as a beautiful seamstress, and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and bowling in league. She and Joe were married over sixty years when he preceded her in death on August 13, 2001.
Alice is survived by children – Michael (Vicki) Rousseau of Mason, MI, James (Pamela) Rousseau of Ocala, FL, Josette (John) Tanner of Ovid, MI, David (Tammie) Rousseau of Interlochen, MI, and Mary Jo (Brian) Latvala of Menominee, MI; grandchildren –Stephen, Michelle, Richard, Nicole, Jodi, Patrick, Melissa, Andy, Arianna, Terra, Breaunna and Jay’Kwaun, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, daughter Teresa Rousseau, and siblings John Bovan and Mary Kathleen Bovan.
Visitation will be held on Monday at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service held at 7:00 p.m. During the Vigil, there will be a time of sharing of remembrances and stories. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October12, 2021 at 11:00 at St. Therese Catholic Church in AuTrain. Interment will be at the Serenity Pines Cemetery in AuTrain.
