Munising
Alma Sandra Klosowski, 100 years and 7 months, died on Sunday morning, May 27, 2012 at the Whispering Pines Care Facility where she had resided for the past three years. She was born on October 27, 1911 in Rexton, Michigan to the late Alex and Hulda (Manninen) Niemi and grew up around the Shingleton area. Alma married Mr. Thayer and she was widowed young when he died of tuberculosis. She later married Harvey Joel, Sr. and he was killed in an accident in the woods. Alma became guardian of Harvey's son, Harvey, Jr. On June 19, 1957, she became a member of the Klosowski family by marrying Edward. Alma and Edward owned different homes and she enjoyed taking care of them by remodeling and painting. She and Edward were married over fifty-one years when he preceded her on May 17, 2005.
Alma is survived by Harvey Joel of Munising; numerous nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law - John and Pat Klosowski of Munising, Stella and Richard Debelak of Munising, and Ann Klosowski of Shingleton. She was also preceded in death by her siblings - Lyla Gonyon, Hilda Niemi, Olga Sebastion, Ila Tower, and Ernest Niemi.
Services for Alma will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Tom Schierkolk will conduct her service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
