Ann Mary (Bubeling) LaFountain, age 103, of High Point, North Carolina and longtime Munising resident died on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Pennybyrm at Maryfield Nursing Home in High Point. She was born on July 17, 1912 in Munising, Michigan to Joseph and Mary Bubeling. Ann grew up and attended school in Munising. She married Charles LaFountain (who was her childhood next door neighbor on Hickory Street) on December 1, 1934 and together they raised their two daughters. While Charles was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Ann worked at Atlas Plywood. She later worked in the meat department at the Red Owl. Ann was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and she loved her faith. She was a proud member of the National Society of Foresters for over eighty-five years, and Ann was also instrumental in starting up the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Munising. She and Charles moved to North Carolina in 1998 to be closer to their daughters. On September 8, 1998, Charles preceded Ann in death after over sixty-three years of marriage. Ann enjoyed being with her family and working on crafts.
She is survived by her daughters – Joan Romback and Barbara (Jerry) Baker all of Jamestown, NC; five grandchildren – Jeffery, Lynn, Laura, Jennifer, and Christie; ten great-grandchildren – Nathan, David, Jeremy, Tony, Lauren, Becky, Charlie, Tyler, Kyle, and Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Clayton Barksdale, son-in-law Robert Romback; sister Rose Benzing; and brothers Joseph Bubeling, Jr. and Frank Bubeling.
