Munising
Anna Hamilla, age 95, died at Tendercare Health Center in Munising on June 18, 2008. Anna was the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Matuszewski) Demogala, who were immigrants to the United States from Poland, and early settlers of Melstrand, MI. Anna was born in Munising on August 24, 1912, and spent her early childhood in Melstrand, moving to Munising in the 1920's and working at the Munising Paper Mill as a sorter. On April 10, 1937, she married Frank Hamilla of Munising. They were lifelong residents of Munising and charter members of Lakeshore Manor following retirement. Their marriage of forty years ended with the death of Mr. Hamilla on June 17, 1977. Anna was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church from the time of her baptism there on August 25, 1912, and her confirmation on June 13, 1928. She was true to her Polish heritage and Catholic faith to the end of her earthly life. Anna was especially grateful to the staff at Tendercare Health Center for their kindness and concern for her in the declining years of her life.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann (Frank) Calkins, of Muskegon; daughter-in-¬law Karen Hamilla of Munising; and by her grandchildren: Frank (Lori) Hamilla of Gaylord MI; Marilyn (Eric) Oas of Manistique; Mark (Amy) Hamilla of Marquette; Carrie Mattson of Munising; Jeffrey (Julie) Calkins of Grand Haven MI; Matthew (Nicole) Calkins of Muskegon; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Blanche Carr of Tecumseh MI; and several nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her son, Frank "Sonny" Hamilla of Munising in 1992; by her brothers: Steven Demogala, Michael Demogala, and Theodore "Bud" Demogala; and by her sister, Rose Melwicki.
Anna's Memorial Mass will be on August 22, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Church in Munising 12:10 p.m. with interment at Maple Grove Cemetery following the Mass.
