Munising
Anna Twardokus, age 95, of E9229 Shannon Drive, Munising, died at 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at her home on under the loving care of her family and North Woods Hospice. She was born on November 7, 1912 in Detroit to Joseph and Josephine (Galas) Okonoski. Anna grew up in Detroit and was a member of St. Catherine's Church. She married Warren R. Twardokus on May 26, 1934. Together they owned and operated Belvidere's Towing Service in Detroit for over forty years where Anna kept the books and did the secretarial work. Anna and Warren had owned a camp on Lost Lake since 1945, so after their retirement, they moved to the Buckhorn Road in 1971. They were married over fifty-five years when Warren preceded her in death on August 31, 1989. Anna was a member of Sacred Heart Church where she cleaned and also helped with the collection monies for many, many years. She was also a member of the Alger County Senior Citizens. Anna enjoyed playing cards and spending time at home with her family.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law - Warren F. (Adele) Twardokus of Harrison Twp., David (Susan) Twardokus of Munising, and Daniel (Katrina) Twardokus of Hudsonville, MI; seven grandchildren - Nick, Laurie (Jay), Howard (Vicky), Mark, Stephen, Nicole, and Elizabeth; four great-grandchildren - Hunter, Raya, Ashley, and Quintin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her brothers Harry, Leonard, Ed, Basil, Joe, and Rev. Fr. Frank Okonoski.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
