Ansa V. Leppanen

Ansa Leppanen, age 93, of Munising, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on July 6, 1918, in Marquette, MI to the late Victor and Anna (Wuorinen) Ranta. Ansa was raised and went to school in Lawson. On February 1, 1936 she married Wilho "Ralli" Leppanen, and together they raised their five children. Ansa enjoyed sewing and making crafts, but loved to spend time digging in many flower gardens, especially at camp "Finlander's Hideaway". She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Munising.
She is survived by her three daughters - Arlene (George LaBeau) Ylinen of Ishpeming, Bonnie (Fred) Frohner of Munising, and Carole (Jim) Sipila of AuTrain; son - Dennis (Ruth) Leppanen of Florida; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over fifty years when he died in 1987 - Ralli; son - Gary in 1968; grandson - Brian Ylinen in 1989.
Ansa's visitation will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Rev. Virginia Mannisto will conduct the funeral at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Ansa's name to the Lung Association, St. John's Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.
