Anthony “Tony” Babcock, age 65, of Munising, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 1, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 26, 1958, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, the first of five children to Richard and Joyce (Duford) Babcock. When Tony was nine, his family moved to the UP where Dick had enjoyed hunting. Tony’s love for music started at a young age, and he was a rebellious teenager. He would sometimes get on the bus for school, and at the next stop get off and go play music all day long. Tony has been in a band ever since he was thirteen playing with the Carr family. His parents would have to drive him to wedding receptions so he could play with the band and used to play five nights a week at the Knotty Club in Christmas. Tony played multiple instruments and built his own recording studio at his home. He had a great voice, and even though he was a rock star, he didn’t like to sing on stage because he was shy. But his family and close friends love to hear him sing. Over the decades, he has played with countless bands, musicians, and at numerous venues: Sky Pilots, Rock Candy, 4 Below Zero, and Tyra; alongside the Carr’s, Kevin and Rob Morrison, Jeff Santi, Brian Benson, Mellisa and Maria Strand, Barry Johnson, Lee Curtis, and David Bowerman just to name a few. He played at every bar in town, and enjoyed traveling to Escanaba and Green Bay to jam with his bands. Aside from music, Tony loved nature. He enjoyed hikes at Miners and Cowell Lake and taking his beagle Quinton for walks around town. Tony loved his family very much. He was close to his sisters and found great joy in being around his children and grandchildren. Recently, Tony went road trip with his Uncle Jack to Banff, Canada. He was so grateful for that trip to have been able stand in the Canadian Rockies and take in all of their beauty. In 2000, Tony met Lisa Holcomb and together they shared everything together as a loving couple. Tony had recently retired from his maintenance position at Tendercare, where he had worked for over twenty years.
He is survived by his life partner and wife – Lisa Holcomb; children - Dylan Babcock, Carmen Babcock, and Jason (Nicole) Babcock all of Clarkston, MI, Andrea (Ryan) Hendrick of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Andrew (Chelsea) Matson of Munising; grandchildren – Devon, Jilly, Adri, Toby, Bella, Mya, Jay, Benny, Easton, Kaysen, Caden, and Asher; sisters – Lisa (Bob) Deneau, of Lake Orion, MI, Gina (Gary Duhame) Babcock of Ishpeming, and Renee (Jay Hauler) Dowd of Munising; uncle – Jack Babcock; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; Tony was preceded in death by his parents – Dick and Joyce Babcock; sister – Lori Paajanen; brother-in-law – Patrick Dowd; and his dog – Quinton.
