Arnold D. "Duke" Doucette, age 83, of N7608 Pine Street, AuTrain, died on Sunday evening, May 20, 2012 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born on January 30, 1929 in AuTrain to the late Frank and Marvel (Bovan) Doucette. Duke graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1947. He briefly moved to Wellington, Washington before entering into the U.S. Navy. Duke served from January 19, 1949 until January 8, 1953. During his naval years, he served on the U.S.S. Antietan and U.S.S. Shangri-La. Duke married Lois M. Berube on May 1, 1954 and they raised their five children. Duke went to work for Kimberly Clark in May of 1953. He served an apprenticeship training program and graduated as a First Class Electrician. Duke worked as an electrician in the Engineering Department until his retirement on January 1, 1988 after completing thirty-five years of service. Duke was a member of St. Therese Church and the American Legion where he was one of the original organizers of "The Longest Day Breakfast." He enjoyed spending time at Hack's camp on Dana Lake and he loved fishing with Paul VanLandschoot, Sr. Duke enjoyed music and played the drums in the band "Family Affair" alongside his mother, sister, and cousin.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty-eight years - Lois of AuTrain; five children - Carleen (Dale) Hancock of Wyoming, Michael Doucette of Jackson, MI, Judy (Michael) Crabtree of Byron Center, MI, Wendy (Kevin) Burke of Munising, and Sandy (Tom) Sheltrow of Harvey; grandchildren - Justin, Erin, Tyler, Meaghan, Julia, Samantha, and Alyssa; five great-grandchildren; sister - Dolly Revord of Green Bay, WI; brother-in-law - Joe Monette of Munising; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Duke was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Carol Monette and Joyce Chartrand.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Serenity Pines Cemetery in AuTrain where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in are requested to the Alzheimer's Association of Marquette or the Alger County Animal Shelter.
