Arthur “Art” E. Tomkinson, age 74, of Chatham, Michigan died unexpectedly early Thursday evening, January 23, 2024 in the Emergency Room of Munising Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1950 in Flint, Michigan to the late Harold and Verna (Fellows) Tomkinson. Art grew up in Burton, Michigan and graduated from Atherton High School in Burton. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves after high school and served twenty-seven years as an active Guard Reserve recruiter and guidance counselor and served out of Oklahoma, Missouri, and Michigan. In 1993, Art married Myla (Larson) Kozlowski. He was a member of the Bath, Michigan V.F.W. and American Legion. Art enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, and scrolling on Facebook. He volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader in Oklahoma and Michigan.
Art is survived by his wife of over thirty-one years – Myla Tomkinson of Chatham; children – Tina (Tony) Baker, Patricia (Terry Pease) Beatenhead, Tom (Denise) Tomkinson, and John (Megan Cullen) Larson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters – Connie (Bill) Collins and Linda Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Ardis Starr.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
