Trenary
Arthur W. Kallio, age 85, of E3119 Gilliland Road, Trenary, died unexpectedly of heart complications at his home on Saturday evening, January 17, 2009. He was born on January 4, 1924 in Trenary to the late Paul and Jenny (Linfors) Kallio. Art served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a field lineman. He was involved in battles and campaigns at Rhineland and Central Europe and earned the American and EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze battle stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the American Legion in Rock. Art was a woods worker and then worked at K & K Construction in Rock. He married Anna Walls in 1992. Art loved to read, garden, and travel.
He is survived by his wife - Anna Kallio of Trenary; stepchildren - Sandra Walls of Trenary, Joe (Melissa) Walls of Belleville, and Chuck (Nancy) Walls of Mason; step grandchildren - Christopher, Natalie, Jeffrey, Gregory, and Ursula; step great grandchildren - Elliana and Andrew; brothers - Donald (Verna) Kallio of Trenary and Laurie (Peggy) Kallio of Albuquerque; sisters - Ruth (Arnie) Ellsworth of Saginaw and Ida Kallio of Trenary; and numerous nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by sisters Helen Viton, Esther Hallinen, Impi Moran, and Jenny Biga.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and also at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Pastor Ted Jolls will conduct Art's funeral service at the Limestone Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at the Mathias Township Cemetery in the spring where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
