Limestone
Arthur M. Rask, age 88 of Limestone and formerly of Oak Lawn, IL died Saturday morning, August 21, 2010 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising, with his loving daughter at his side. He was born on February 8, 1922 in Zeigler, Illinois to Croatian immigrants. Art was a Radio Man in the US Navy Mine Division aboard the USS Nuthatch (AM-60) during WWII. He was involved the clearing of mines off the coast of Normandy on D-Day to assure ships accesses to the shore, and also throughout the Mediterranean Sea. While home on leave, Art married his high school sweetheart Bertha Schweitzer on August 4, 1945. He worked for thirty-five years at Argonne National Lab in the Chicago area, in the High Energy Physics Division, and also at the Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico before retiring. His hobbies included playing the Hammond Organ and enjoying all types of music.
Art is survived by his daughter Danita Rask of Limestone, with whom he lived for the past four years. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Rask in June of 2003, and his son-in-law Timothy McAvinchey in March of 2003.
Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago.
