Barbara J. Moore, age 67, of N3816 M-67, Chatham, left us to be with the Lord and her son on Wednesday evening, October 13, 2010 at her home under the loving care of her family. She was born on July 31, 1943 in Munising to the late Lawrence and Lucille (Livermore) Gollinger. Barb graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1961. She met and married Michael L. Moore and the adventure began. She worked at the Superior Health Haven as a nurse's aide. Her dedication and love of caring for the residents there led her to earning her Nursing Home Administrator License and eventually the purchase of the facility. Barb was dedicated with her time, energy and love to her residents who truly were her extended family. She was a self-made and very respected business woman in the community. Barb was extremely proud to have her daughter Lisa carry on her legacy at the Health Haven while she enjoyed retirement. She and Mike had also owned and operated the Village Pub in Chatham for seven years. Barb is a proud member of the U.P. Chiefs Motorcycle Club - "Once a Chief - Always a Chief." She also served as secretary for the Chiefs for many years. Barb's travels took her to every state in the U.S. with the exception of Alaska. Mike and Barb loved traveling together and visited thirty-nine states on a motorcycle and enjoyed cruising the Caribbean and Panama Canal. They enjoyed their winters in Port Isabelle, Texas - spending those winters with new and old friends. They also attended the United Methodist Church both in Munising and Port Isabelle. Barb was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan. She was extremely proud of and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Barb is survived by her husband and best friend of forty-three years - Mike of Chatham; daughter and son-in-law - Lisa and Charles Peters, Jr.; step-son - Alan "Abe" Moore of Norway; grandchildren - Michael and Charli Lynn Peters and Connor Moore; brother - Ray (Donna) Gollinger of Munising; sister - Lorraine Hensel of Sturtevant, WI; half sisters - Darlene Moreland and Kelly (Loren) King of Munising; in-laws - Beryl and Edwin Jalonen of Eben, Patrick (Cindy) Moore of Prentice, WI, David (Linda) Moore of Limestone and Carol Moore of Saginaw. She was preceded in death by her son Mark Paul Moore on November 2, 1979, mother and step-father Lucille and Harold Bray, father Larry Gollinger, parents-in-law Thomas and Ida Moore, niece Amber Gollinger and brothers-in-law Thomas Moore and Keith Hensel.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00 until 8:30 p.m. Barb's funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Munising at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Limestone Township Cemetery where she will be buried next to Mark. Following the burial, a time of fellowship will be held at Sydney's in Munising.
