Marquette
Barbara C. Newman, age 51, of Pioneer Drive in Marquette, died Sunday morning, September 7, 2014 at her home under the care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice. She was born in Tawas, Michigan on May 2, 1963 to the late Clifford and Royalene (Anstett) Newman. Barb was a hardworking woman who had a lot of spirit and her travels took her to Oscoda, England, New Mexico, Illinois, and finally Marquette in 1991. She was proud of earning her Associate's degree and was a self-employed housekeeper for many private homes in Marquette. Barb was raising her grandson, Anthony, and they kept very busy with wrestling, go karts, and his other activities. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she would go "over the top" when it came to celebrating holidays with them. Barb was a great baker and cook. She enjoyed the waterfalls in Alger County, picking blue berries, and playing at the casino. Barb approached whatever life threw at her with laughter, a smile, and a positive attitude.
She is survived by her two children - James "Jimmy" William Newman of Marquette and Heather Nadine Newman of New York; grandchildren - Anthony James Newman, James Thomas Newman and Layla Royalene Newman; brother - Bill Newman of Shingleton; stepmother - Laura Pagel of Ocala, FL, nieces - Katlyn, Kara, Kristen, and Tiffany; nephews - Colin and Jeffrey; half-sister - Marsha Chatman of California; and longtime friend - Tracey Leonard of Marquette. Barb was preceded in death by her parents Cliff and Royalene, stepfather Jeff Pagel, brothers Jody and John Newman, and her grandparents.
Barb's visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Masonic Square at 128 W. Washington Street, Marquette, MI from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct a memorial service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
