Bertha Luke, age 95, of 200 W. City Park Drive Munising, and formerly of Melstrand, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on August 20, 1914 in Ishpeming, MI. Bertha married Leaton L. Luke in June of 1934 and together they raised their four children from their home in Melstrand. She was a proud member of the First Baptist Church for over forty six years. Bertha enjoyed crocheting, camping, fishing, and even more than fishing was eating the fish they caught.
She is survived by her daughter - Inez (Virgil) Scott of 3596 Foot Creek Rd., Gold Hill, OR 97525; son - Lawrence "Larry" (Darlene) Luke of Gemini Lake; eleven grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters - Lillian Tuimala and Martha Tuimala both of Marquette, Ellen Fipula of Escanaba, and Dagmer Zielke of Milwaukee, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Leaton in 1976; and sons Russell and Raymond.
Committal prayers at the graveside will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Pastor Jason LaFlamme of the Munising Baptist Church will conduct the services. A memorial service will be held at a later date this summer at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore.
