Lansing / Munising, Lost Lake
Bertha Irene Pangborn, age 94, of Lansing and summertime resident of Lost Lake in Munising, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at her beloved family cabin on Lost Lake, under the loving care of her family. She was born in Winters, Michigan on May 8, 1921 to the late Walter and Mary (Heneriksan) Hill. Bertha graduated from Graveraet High School in Marquette, Michigan. She met Wayne "Beanie" Pangborn while he was attending Northern Michigan University and they were married in Munising, Michigan on August 22, 1942. Beanie then joined the U.S. Army and in 1943, they were stationed in Presque Isle, Maine where their first child was born. They then returned to the U.P. and Beanie finished school and their other four children were born across the Upper Peninsula. Beanie was a school teacher and Bertha was a stay at home mom and homemaker. They moved to Lansing in 1956 but continued to enjoy their summers at the family camp on Lost Lake. While in Lansing, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and proud volunteer at St. Lawrence Hospital. During their retirement, they enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Europe and spending winters in Texas. Bertha was a wise, powerful, and youth-souled lady. She loved her family and cherished the time she could spend at her Utopia on Lost Lake.
She is survived by three children - Kathy Emery of Arlington Heights, IL, Gary (Dolly) Pangborn of East Jordan, MI, and Claude (Sue) Pangborn of Perry, MI; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law - Pat Bohnet; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend - Thelma Hawxhurst of Lost Lake. Bertha was preceded in death by, husband Wayne "Beanie", daughter Dianne Bohnet, son Dennis Pangborn, son-in-law Ed Emery, sister Signe, and brothers Elmer and George.
Private family services will be held at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing. Memorials in Bertha's name may be made to the North Woods Home Hospice, 129 E. Superior St., Munising, MI 49862.
