Beth M. Spencer, age 61, of Michigan City, Indiana and formerly of Chatham, Michigan, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising with her loving husband at her side. She was born on March 23, 1952 to the late Carl and Marjorie (Read) Dawson, in Mt. Clemons, Michigan. Beth grew up in Washington, Michigan and attended Romeo High School until her family moved to Chatham in 1968. She graduated from Eben High School in 1970. Beth earned her Nurse's Aide certificate while working at the Superior Health Haven, and worked there for four years before moving to Michigan City and went to work at Michigan City Memorial Hospital. She married David "Spence" Spencer on August 29, 1978. They enjoyed traveling together, especially when Beth got to be Spence's co-pilot in their plane. In her younger years, Beth was a member of 4-H and gave ski instruction at the Chatham Ski Hill. More recently she enjoyed researching her and Spence's genealogy, making blankets and quilts, and collecting antique Rail Road Dining Room China. Beth was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by her husband - "Spence" of over thirty-five years of Michigan City; stepchildren - Laurel Lee (Paul) Smith of Chico, CA, Chrystal Davis of LaPorte, IN, David A. (Lisa) Pendragon of Dallas, TX, and Jamey C. (Jennifer) Spencer of Michigan City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings - Dow Douglas (Peggy) Dawson of Escanaba, MI, and Theresa (Norm) Hancock of Wetmore, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Beth is preceded in death by her parents; brother - Ross Richard Dawson; and son-in-law - Mark Davis.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. as well as Thursday, October 31, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Beth's Funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Root Funeral Home in Michigan City, Indiana, with visitation from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 8:00. Also on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 visitation at the Glenn Funeral Home in Union City, Pennsylvania from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Union City, on Thursday.
