Betty Marie Woodaz, age 81, of Munising, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning, February 28, 2015 at her daughter's home in AuTrain under the loving care of her family. She was born on November 9, 1933 to the late Leo and Lillian (Bonner) Maxon. Betty was born and raised in Munising and she attended Wm. G. Mather High School. On October 10, 1953, she married Theodore "Tage" Woodaz, Sr. Together they lovingly raised their four children. Betty's home was always open to her children, nieces and nephews, and neighborhood kids. She loved to bake and every morning started with a hot breakfast. As a family, they enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, traveling, spending time at Ready Lake and family parties that always included food, dancing, music and singing. As parents, Tage and Betty were an active, loving, open, and fun team. Betty's work was centered around being a caregiver. After raising her own family, she babysat for the Charboneau family, and then went to work for the Commission on Aging. Betty also enjoyed horseback riding, white water rafting, sitting on the swing, and watching the water.
Betty is survived by her four children - Debbie (Michael) Nanry of Pinckney, MI, Donna (Ray "Bobe") Cornish of Oklahoma, Sherri (Brian) Prunick of AuTrain, and Ted (Robynne) Woodaz of Munising ; eight grandchildren - Ken (Crystal) , Jason (Nikki), Joe (Holly), Jessica, Nick, Keeley (Sebastian), Mary (Eric), and Abby; great-grandchildren - Cortne', Sadie, Cadence, Joey, Jacob, Jasper, and Eli; great-great granddaughter - Ava; siblings - Jim (Margaret) Maxon, Verna Kallio, Jerry (Charlotte) Maxon, Bob (Sharon) Maxon; in-laws - Marjorie Maxon, Helen Rzanca, Cecilia Woodaz , Stella Cabanaw , and Johnny Woodaz. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tage on March 14, 1999, brother Roy Maxon, and in-laws - August "Red" Rzanca, Mary (John) Kordish, Bill Cabanaw, Pat Woodaz, Bernard "Bruno" Woodaz, and Don Kallio.
Betty's visitation and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Betty's funeral service at noon in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. A fellowship gathering will take place at the AuTrain Community Center following the service. Memorials in Betty's name may be directed to the Relay for Life Team "Band Aid Brigade."
