Beverly “Bev” A. Tufnell, age 79 of AuTrain, died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at her home under the loving care of her family and North Woods Home Hospice. She was born on April 10, 1938 in Manistique to Ernest and Goldie (Sample) Steinhoff. Bev married Wayne Tufnell on July 19, 1958 and together they had their seven children in nine years (one set of twins). In 1964, the family moved to Lansing, where Bev was a stay at home mom raising her family and cooking and baking up a storm. In 1986, Bev and Wayne moved to AuTrain to get away from the busy city. Back in the U.P. she began hunting deer, feeding the birds, tending to her garden, and decorating her home for all holidays. Bev kept a tidy home, and always knew if there was a flower out of place in her garden. Bev worked in the kitchen at the Dogpatch for five years in the mid 1990's where she enjoyed meeting people and sharing her skills. She enjoyed cooking, baking, trips to the casino, and Cash Words. Bev was a good and strong woman, and she loved her kids and grandkids.
She is survived by five children – Gale (James) Rodgers of Albany, GA, Gary Tufnell of Lansing, Kelly Tufnell of AuTrain, Dale Tufnell of Munising, and Carla Tackett of Lansing; daughter-in-law - Dora Tufnell (wife of James); fifteen grandchildren - Josh, Kristina, Samantha, Patrick, Angel, Dale, Jr., Evelyn, Kaleb, David, Jennifer, Jessica, Terry II, Emily, Megan, and Jordan; twenty-two great grandchildren; brother – James (Carolyn) Steinhoff of AuTrain; sister – Mary Jo Albright of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bev was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, sons Terry Tufnell and James Tufnell, granddaughter Lesilie, sister Sharon (Ernie) Burley, and brother-in-law Russell Albright.
Beverly’s committal service will be at the Serenity Pines Cemetery in AuTrain on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. A fellowship gathering and celebration of life will take place at the AuTrain Community Building in AuTrain at 4:00 p.m.
