Bonitta "Bonnie" Joyce LeVeque

Bonitta "Bonnie" Joyce LeVeque, age 87, of Munising died on Friday afternoon, December 26, 2014 at her home under the loving care of her family and Northwoods Hospice while surrounded by her children. She was born on March 31, 1927 in Munising to the late Fred and Laura (Gauthier) Bonner. Bonnie grew up during the Depression years and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1945. She married Kenneth George "Lefty" LeVeque, Jr. on September 18, 1948 and together they raised their seven children. When the family was young, Lefty was recalled back into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and Bonnie worked very hard during those times. She was a hardworking and loving mother. She enjoyed family get-togethers, singing as a family at social events and privately with family around a campfire or their living room. Bonnie also enjoyed sewing, square dancing with Lefty, and playing in a cribbage club. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and the Guild, the National Catholic Society of Foresters, the American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul Society, the DAV Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America, and she served as a Brownie leader. Bonnie and Lefty were married over fifty-one years when he preceded her in death on March 31, 2000.


She is survived by her seven children - Bonnie (Don) Heyrman of Munising, Sandy (George) Lane of Wetmore, Sue (Lyle) Rushford of Munising, Patty LeVeque of Munising, Pam LeVeque of Munising, Tom LeVeque of Munising, and Ken (Ryan Joy) LeVeque of Munising; 11 grandchildren - Dawn, David (Chelsea), Duane (Karen), Tammy (William), Cheri (Jeff) , Scot, Dan (Sara), Brian, Zach, Alec, and Paul; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law - Jim LeVeque, Larry (Kay) LeVeque, Eleanor Goss, and Dolores LeVeque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lefty, and siblings - Archie, Pearl, Eva, Lillian, Norman, Norma, and Bill.


Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:00. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising by Father Chris Gardiner. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. where there will be committal prayers and a Legion Auxiliary service.
