Bonnie Lee (Posio) Barnett

Bonnie Lee (nee Posio) Barnett, age 76, of Skandia, died Saturday morning, October 29, 2016 at her home under the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.  She was born on July 2, 1940 in Munising to John and Viola (Ketola) Posio.  Bonnie had a wonderful childhood growing up at Forest Lake.  She spent summers swimming off of the dam and winters ice skating at the basin.  Bonnie cherished her memories and love of Forest Lake throughout her life.  In 1957, she was married and raised her seven children.  The family moved to Kalamazoo in 1968 and returned to the U.P. in 1977.  Bonnie began working at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility as an aide.  She worked there for twenty-five years and retired in 2002 as their Central Supply Clerk.  Bonnie enjoyed being with her family, crocheting, sewing, taking Debbie Tours and boat cruises, and traveling to Montana and Alaska.  She was also very proud of her Finnish heritage

Bonnie is survived by her five daughters – Brenda Longtine of Skandia, Char (Kurt) Barnett-Haglund of Skandia, Renee (Greg) Tritt of McFarland, Tammy (Bruce) Washburn of Skandia, and Kayleen (Tom Ketola) Barnett of Skandia; eight grandchildren – Cora (Casey), Andrew, Cody (Jen), Nathan, Brian (Stephanie), Amanda (Johnny), Alisha (Dustin), Aaron (Paige); eleven great-grandchildren – Jacob, Jorgia, Camryn, Cole, Landon, Trinity, Cash, Xander, Autumn, Trenton, and Danica; siblings – Joyce (Martin) Hendrickson, Nancy Kinnunen, Bruce (Sharon Cearley) Posio, and Donna (Fred) VanDellen; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Michelle Diedrich and Bill Nelson.   Bonnie was preceded in death by her children – Kerry Lynn Barnett and Brian Chester Barnett; her parents John and Viola; son-in-law – Samuel Longtine; brother – John Posio; and brother-in-law – Reino Kinnunen.

Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday, November 3, 2016.  Visiting time with family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Rev. Leon Jarvis will conduct Bonnie’s memorial service in the funeral home’s chapel at 5:00 p.m.  Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.
