Brian Joseph Johnson

Brian Joseph Johnson, age 33, of Marquette, died on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin following heart complications. Brian was born in Munising on November 4, 1981. He grew up in Munising with his mother, Kathryn Johnson, and enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, Harold "Tuffy" and Mary Johnson. Brian and his mom moved to Marquette and he graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 2000. Brian entered in the U.S. Marine Corps on June 20, 2000. He married Jennifer Wehrle in 2006 and together raised their family. Brian served many tours overseas and was a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. He was an Infantry Unit Leader, Rifleman, and Marine Combat Instructor. Amongst Brian's medals, ribbons, badges, and awards, he was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals with Valor, another Commendation Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and Combat Action Ribbons in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was medically discharged from the Marine Corps in 2013. Brian was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time in the woods. He especially cherished this last summer that he spent with his two youngest children, Briana and Bradley.

He is survived by their children - Matthew and Brittany Wroe and Briana Vanessa and Robert Bradley Johnson all of Jacksonville, NC; girlfriend - Jenna Barosko of Garden; brother - Jason Denman of Gwinn; aunts and uncles - Joseph Johnson, Carole (John) Murk, and Linda Johnson all of Munising; father - James B. Denman; and numerous cousins. Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Johnson, earlier this year, his grandparents, Tuffy and Mary Johnson, and an uncle, David Johnson.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard and members of the Marine Honor Guard on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
