Steuben
Carol Sue Smith, age 67, of Steuben, Michigan, passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, September 20, 2013. She was at her home under the loving care of her family and North Woods Hospice. She was born on August 22, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan to Robert and Frances McKinley. On February 25, 1967, she was united in marriage to Russell H. Smith Jr.. Carol attended and graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor Degree in Education. They lived most of their married life in the Kalamazoo, Gobles area. The last seven years, Carol and Russ have made their home in the beautiful UP, at their cabin, on the Indian River, while attending Munising Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of over forty-six years, Russell Smith of Steuben. Their three children are; Bryan H. Smith of Gobles, Shanna L. (Steve) Ax of Allegan, and Kristen K. (Tony) Bechler of Three Rivers. There are four grandchildren; Tyler and Timothy Ax, Britta and Brooklyn Bechler and one great-grandson, Alexander Bechler. Her mother, Frances J. Gregory of Hilton Head, SC; and sister, Mary A (Andy) Pracht of Hilton Head and a nephew, Andrew B. Sullivan of Arizona, and a step-brother , Charles A. Gregory of Colorado. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Bob McKinley.
Services will be held at the Munising Baptist Church, N 6285 Connors Road, Wetmore, Michigan, 49895, on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Pastors Jason LaFlamme and Hank St.Amour III will conduct Carol's funeral at noon. A fellowship gathering will continue at the church following the service. Interment will be in the Hiawatha Township Cemetery in Schoolcraft County on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
