Cecilia “Cilly” E. Woodaz, age 92, of Munising, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016, at UP Health Systems – Marquette due to a brief illness with family members at her side. She was a resident of Tendercare Health Center since September 2015 when she fell and broke her right leg. She was born in Munising, Michigan on August 23, 1923 to Jacob and Anna (Kapan) Woodaz. She graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1942. She then went to Ypsilanti and worked as a welder in an airplane plant for three years and then moved back to Munising. Ceil then got a job at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill and worked there for over thirty-seven years. After retirement she enjoyed hobbies like reading books, sewing, feeding the birds, and maintaining her flowers around her house. She also loved to travel, taking trips to Branson, Missouri and even traveled to Poland to see many of her cousins. Ceil was very proud of her Polish heritage, she belonged to the Polish American Society and the Sacred Heart Church Guild. Ceil never married, but had many nieces and nephews she enjoyed throughout her years. She was a favorite Godmother to many of them. Ceil was also a caregiver for her brother Bruno and her companion Jim Goodreau in their later years. She was a very caring person who would help anyone in need.
She is survived by her sisters – Helen Rzanca and Stella Cabanaw; brother - John Woodaz; and twenty-nine nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers - Theodore “Tage” (Betty) and Bernard “Bruno” Woodaz; sisters Mary (John) Kordish and Bernice Woodaz; brothers-in-law – Red Rzanca, John Kordish, and William Cabanaw ; sister-in-law – Pat Woodaz; and companion James Goodreau.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Father Chris Gardiner will conduct Ceil’s funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials in Cecilia’s name may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
