Charles William Mazzali

Charles William Mazzali, age 92, of Munising, died Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.  He was born on January 5, 1929 in Munising to William and Alice (Bowerman) Mazzali.  Charlie graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School and then worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes.  Charlie served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa as a radio guidance operator.   He married Grace Mueller on January 2, 1956.  Charlie and Grace were both active in Masonic activities and they enjoyed traveling around the country together.  He took wonderful care of Grace when her health failed.  They were married over forty-five years when Grace preceded Charlie in death on January 10, 2001.  Charlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Grand Island Masonic Lodge, and the Ahmed Shriners.  His employment included selling life insurance for Prudential and Mazzali Insurance, and he partnered with his siblings in different business ventures including Leach’s and  Mr. B’s.

Charlie enjoyed his coffee klatch time, playing Wednesday night poker, visiting with people, sharing meals with friends, and taking rides in his car with his boxer at his side (or on his lap.)

Charlie is survived by: brother-in-law – Bill Henninger; granddaughter – Lois; stepchildren – Sharon and Al;  and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace, daughter Ellen; stepson – Richard; and siblings – Betty (Austin) Geary, Billie Mazzali, William (Gerry) Mazzali, and Norma Henninger.

Services will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021.  Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.   Pastor Jim Rodgers will conduct Charlie’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
