Shingleton
Charlotte Marie (Ruggles) Barrow “Grandma Charlie”, age 80, of Shingleton, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Tendercare Health Center in Munising surrounded by her loving family and many close friends. Charlotte was born at the family homestead in Hiawatha to the late Russell and Genevera (Byers) Ruggles on October 22, 1936. She went to school in Manistique and on August 14, 1954, she married the late James Barrow. Together they raised their four children. In 1963, the family moved to Royal Oak. After a time, she started working at Madison Community Hospital as a dietician. She loved her job and the people she worked with. In 1978, when Jim retired, they moved back to the U.P. There Charlotte started working for Timber Products in Shingleton. As was her nature, she created many friendships with her work mates. She retired from Timber Products. Charlotte was a people person. She loved spending time with her friends and family.
Charlotte is survived by her sons: Jim “Lil Wheel” (Kathy) Barrow, Jr. of Escanaba, Steve Barrow of Shingleton, and Billy (Diane) Barrow of Clarkston, MI; grandchildren – Shannon (Matt), Dallas (Vanessa), Danny, Deanna, Darcy, Stephen (Patty), Jr., Billy II, and Brendan; six great grandchildren; sister – Catherine Strawbridge of St. Joseph, MI; brother – Russell “Chum” (Peggy) Ruggles, Jr. of Hiawatha; son-in-law – Russ Sherman of Burton, MI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years James Barrow, Sr., her parents Genevera and Russell Ruggles, Sr., her daughter Eva Marie Sherman, and granddaughter Jennifer Barrow.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the employees at Tendercare, Munising Memorial Hospital, and Marquette General Hospital for their wonderful Care. Also, a special thanks to her friends Kim and Pam.
There will be a memorial graveside service on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. There will be a fellowship gathering held at the Shingleton Community Center following the committal service.
