Munising
Chet Gage, age 56, of Munising died early Tuesday morning, March 9, 2010 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on June 26, 1953 in Escanaba to Edgar and Frances "Kewpie" (Donathan) Gage. Chet graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army for 13 years. Chet drove a fuel truck out of Marquette and semi trucks out of Escanaba for AM Express for many years. He drove around the country and out of Gulfport; Mississippi. Chet was a talented wood carver and spent many hours creating gifts of art for his many friends. He was very active in the local AA community and his 15+ years of sobriety were an inspiration to many others battling the disease of alcoholism.
Chet is survived by his parents, Edgar and Kewpie Gage of St Martins Hill, Munising; three daughters: Sabrina (Wade) Stanley of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy (Phil) Parkkila of Munising, and Toni Bresette of Marquette; two sons: John (Liz) Gage of Christmas and Chet Gage, Jr., of Gwinn; brothers Michael (Trish) Gage of Brainerd, MN, Brady (Keely) Gage of Euharlee, GA; sisters Micki (Dale) Sarasin of Gladstone, MI, and Teri (Paul) Taylor of Harrison, AR. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Gary Lee Gage in 2004 and David Allen Gage in 2009.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Chet's memory to the Alger Cancer Support Fund (acsf@live.com).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 27, 2010 at the Bowerman Funeral Home. There will be visitation time from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. the American Legion Honor Guard and Alger County Veterans Council will conduct military honors, followed by a memorial service officiated by Deacon Tom Moseley.
