Christine Parkinson, age 50, of N4380 M-67 Chatham, died unexpectedly at Marquette General Hospital on Thursday afternoon, February 26, 2009. Chris was born on December 28, 1958 in Owosso, Michigan to Charles and Josephine (Svrcek) Chmelar. She was raised in Corunna and attended school there. Chris worked for General Motors for twelve years. During that time, she got her Journeyman's card in welding. She then earned an Associate's Degree from Mott Community College in Flint and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida. She had married David E. Parkinson on January 15, 1981. They moved to the Chatham area from the Millington area in 1995. Chris worked as a Registered Nurse for North Woods Home Nursing in Munising and then ten years as an R.N. at the Marquette Branch Prison. Chris was a gifted basket weaver and was philanthropic at heart. She enjoyed spending hours with many charities including working with the women's shelter, food for the needy, and donating to our troops overseas. She was a mentor to many around the country and world with her couponing skills and assisted many people at afullcup.com
She is survived by her husband - David Parkinson of Chatham; children - Davey (Jackie) Parkinson of Burlington, WI and Angel Parkinson of Oxford, MI; parents - Charlie and Josphine Chmelar of Dover, FL; sister - Diane Chmelar of Madison, TN; grandchildren - Gage, Brandon, Cameron, Kirsten, Collin, and Brittaney; aunts and uncles - Agnes (Vern)Hoshal of Brighton, MI, Lillian (Ed) Damer of Lansing, Joseph Svrcek of Corunna, MI, Leslie Chemlar of Swartz Creek, MI, Mary (Frank) Ocevek of Owosso, MI; brothers-in-law - Bob Parkinson of East Jordan, Tom (Barb) Parkinson of Millington, Chuck (Louise) Parkinson of South Branch, Larry (Nona) of Hail; sister-in-law - Mary (Al) Morrison of West Branch; and numerous cousins,nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon John Weber officiating.
