Claude Arthur Robertson, age 76, of E3990 Magnusson Road, Chatham, died following a lengthy illness on Wednesday morning, March 28, 2007 at the Marquette General Hospital. He was born on August 12, 1930 in King City, Missouri to the late Truman and Ila (Snapp) Robertson. His family moved to Michigan when he was young and Claude graduated from Rochester High School. He began employment with Detroit Edison in 1949. On August 4, 1951, Claude married Lee Dahlman. He entered into the U.S. Army on September 5, 1951. Claude served in the Signal Corps outside of Tokyo during the Korean War. He returned home in September of 1953 to Lee and their oldest son, David, who was born while Claude was overseas. He continued his work at Detroit Edison and retired after 40 ½ years of service. Claude coached little league with his kids and he also instilled in them love and appreciation for the outdoors. Claude and Lee had a camp on Magnusson Road, and they spent all of their family vacations there. There was always an excuse to go to the cabin. After his retirement, Claude and Lee made their property on Magnusson Road their permanent residence. He continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors on their property.
Claude is survived by his wife of over 55 years - Lee Robertson of Chatham; sons - David & Debbie Robertson of Lapeer, MI and Marc Robertson of Clarkston, MI; Daddy's Girl - Cynthia & Jay Geoit of Hilliard, OH; grandchildren - Justin, Derek, and Shannon Robertson, Ryan and Mitchell Geoit, and Kyle and Carley Robertson; great-grandson - Jack Arthur Robertson; two brothers - Frank (Jeanie) Robertson of Waterford, MI and Gary (Mary) Robertson of Troy, MI; numerous nieces and nephews including his nephew and nieces who Claude and Lee helped raise- Jeff (Larissa) Robertson (and their children Zachary, Rachael, Jordon, and Hannah), Wendy (Tom) Wagner (and their daughter Kenna), and Colette (Matt) Domke. Claude was preceded in death by his parents, brothers - Don, Rex, Vern, Doris, and John, and his sister Twylia.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 and also at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 until 11:00. Claude's funeral service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Trenary with Pastor Irene White officiating on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Limestone Township Cemetery where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Claude will be escorted by Justin, Derek, and Kyle Robertson and Ryan, Mitchell, and Jay Geoit.
