Munising / Livonia
Clifford James Kolbus, age 65, of Livonia and formerly of Munising, passed away in his sleep, Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. Son of Dorothy Kolbus Ayotte and the late John Joseph Kolbus Sr., he was born on June 18, 1945. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in Munising in 1963. Clifford served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973. He earned his Bachelors from MSU 1972 and his MBA from Wayne State 1980. Clifford was an insurance adjuster until 1980; he became a CPA that year. He started the accounting firm Connell & Kolbus in 1982 with Jack Connell, and has maintained that business since (through several business name changes, finally Kolbus & Associates). His dry sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Clifford was a loving father to children Peter, Andrew (Lindsay), and Jennifer, and brother to John Jr. (Carolyn), Robert (Toni), Connie (Theo) Folz, and Kathy (Art) Rogers.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 10, 2011 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Clifford's service will begin at 5:00 p.m. where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors, Deacon Tom Moseley will conduct a prayer service. In lieu of flowers, contributions to American Cancer Society, Alger County Historical Society, and Nature Conservancy are appreciated.
