Daniel A. Charlebois, age 52, of Skandia, died early Thursday, May 25, 2023 in a car accident on his way to work. Dan was born in Marquette, Michigan on April 12, 1971 to James and Gloria (Tyner) Charlebois. He grew up in Chatham and graduated as a standout athlete and basketball player for the Superior Central Cougars in 1989. Dan served in the U.S. Navy from 1991 – 1995. He graduated from BUD/S Class 186 and then became a member of SEAL Team 2 in Virginia Beach, VA. After serving our country, the family moved to Augusta, MI where he became an electrician. Dan raised four children who he was very proud of. He was a hands-on dad who taught them many of his skills and passions. In 2000, he moved his family back north to the Upper Peninsula and he went to work at Timber Products. He became a Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan and worked at Alger Max for ten years. Dan then worked multiple contract deployments overseas. He was employed as an electrician at the mines at the time of his death.
He was passionate about hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Dan was an excellent marksman and enjoyed shooting guns and won many competitions. He was a skilled and artistic craftsman working with wood and stone. Dan was charming and patient (wink face emoji.) His greatest pleasure involved having his family around him and spending time together at his bonfires.
He is survived by his four children – Brittany (Keith) Maki of Skandia, Jacques (Molly) Charlebois of Virginia Beach, VA, Cole Charlebois of Durango, CO and Upper Michigan, and Charlotte Charlebois of Skandia; grandchildren – Heidi, Myron, Hesper, and Iver; his father – Jim Charlebois of Chatham; siblings – Carol (Jeff) Seger of Harvey, Bonnie (Tom) Johnson of Chatham, and Steve (Kristi) Charlebois of Chatham; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
