Daniel Gavin Piippo, age 66, of Traunik, died early Monday morning, October 4, 2021 at UPHS Marquette following a three week battle with Covid-19. He was born on August 23, 1955 in Marquette, Michigan to Walter and Gloria (Spencer) Piippo. Dan graduated from Eben High School in 1973. He went to work at Kimberly Clark on October 1, 1973 in the Machine Room and worked in Specialties, Maintenance, and then the Yard crew. Dan retired on January 1, 2011. In the past, he enjoyed deer hunting, but most recently, Dan enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the deer at his camp. He loved fishing, smoking fish, and spending time at camp. Dan very much enjoyed the challenge of hunting for and finding morel and oyster mushrooms. He was an avid gardener and grew delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, and many other vegetables. Dan had a significant appreciation for all wildlife, Lake Superior, and the beauty of nature. He felt strongly about the importance protecting Michigan’s wolf population.
Dan is survived by his brother – Walter and Susan Piippo of Seal Beach, CA; sister Lisa Wojciechowski of Marquette; nephew and nieces– Daniel, Marcy, and Re’Anne; grandnephews – James D., Connor, and Anthony; great grandnephew – Elijah; great grandniece Maya Rose; goddaughter – Jessica Walters; numerous cousins; and many close friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Keith “Keefer” Wojciechowski.
A time to celebrate Dan’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials are requested to be made to UPAWS (Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter) or the Alger County Animal Shelter.
