Darrell Duane Adair, age 76, of Marquette, Michigan and formerly of Munising, Michigan died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at his home under the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice.  He was born in Munising, Michigan on March 11, 1945 to the late Donald and Hilma (Laytonen) Adair.  While in school, Darrell worked for Dell Mercier as a baker.  He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in Munising in 1963.  Darrell went on to work at Angelies’ Bakery in Marquette before moving to Kenosha, Wisconsin working at Witt Bakery and American Brass in the mill making copper tubing.  He then moved to Fullerton, California where he worked for Paul Johnson at his Danish Bakery.  Darrell was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 12, 1966.  He completed basic training at Fort Knox and the went to San Antonio where he received his medic training, and finally Fort Riley, Kansas before being deployed to Vietnam.  Darrell served as a Medic for the Combat Engineers 9th Infantry Division.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, Combat Medical Badge, Soldier’s Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter (M-14), and was honorably discharged on October 15, 1967 as a Sergeant SP5 (T).  Darrell then moved to Waukegan, Illinois and worked for Evinrude and Johnson Motors for seven years.  In 1976, he moved back to the U.P. and began working as a plant repairman at the CCI Mines for the next thirty-five years.  Darrell was a proud member of AMVET Post 122 of Ishpeming.  He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, camping, fishing, and sharing his fish with family and friends.  Darrell was a great storyteller and cherished his family and friends from the mine.

He is survived by his children – Sheldon Adair of Marquette and Sherri Stewart of Ishpeming; grandchildren – Christopher, Anna, Lillian, and Breauna; sisters – Dorothy Masters and Karen (Mel) Beauchine, brothers-in-law – Mike Migazzi and Bob Durocher; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Darrell was preceded in death by his parents – Don and Hilma; siblings – Ed Adair, Ron Adair, Sheldon Adair, Dennis “Denny” (Regina) Adair, Betty Durocher, Lorraine (Ed) Vertz, and Judy Migazzi; and brother-in-law – Bob Masters.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.  Pastor Jim Rodgers of the First Presbyterian Church in Munising will conduct Darrell’s funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 12:00 noon where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Council will be conduct military honors.
