David "Doc" Holloway, age 61, of 16 Mile Lake Road, died under the loving care of his wife and North Woods Hospice at their home on Tuesday afternoon, July 27, 2010. He was born on June 17, 1949 in Flint, Michigan to the late Ward and Doris (Weidenhammer) Holloway. After graduating from a Flint area high school, Dave joined the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam, was stationed in Germany, and later served in the National Guard. After the Army, Dave moved to the Upper Peninsula and married Jude Bernard in 1973. They built their dream home in the woods and raised their three perfect children with a simple lifestyle that they both treasured. Doc went to work at Kimberly Clark in 1988. He worked as a laborer, pipefitter, safety action member, safety coordinator, and maintenance planner and scheduler. Doc retired on March 1, 2008. Dave was an avid birder and nature lover. He and Jude enjoyed travelling together and birding.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 37 years - Jude; three children - Nathanael (Sara) Holloway of Munising, Isaiah (Tiffany) Holloway of Portland, OR and Anna (Troy) Hicks of Holbrook, AZ; six grandchildren - Russ Bernard and Elizabeth Holloway, Sietie, Kyah and Owen Hicks, and Isabelle Holloway; brother - Norman (Sheri) Holloway of Davison, MI; sister - Marcia (Barton) Payne of Houston, TX; in-laws - Russ and Bonnie Bernard of Munising; sisters and brothers-in-law - Lynne Bowerman, Jake (Donna) Bernard, Sandy (Peanut) Davis, Russ Bernard and Sheryl (Tim) Anderson; step-sister-in-law - Sue (Mark) Jokela; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and Bud the dog. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Ward and Doris Holloway, mother-in-law Molly Bernard, brother-in-law Bob Bowerman and step-brother-in-law Scott Stelmaszek.

Ceremonies honoring Dave will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his home at 5:00 p.m. A time of gathering and fellowship will be after the ceremonies until 8:00p.m. Friends and family are encouraged to bring a dish to pass, your own table settings and lawn chair to sit and visit.
