David A. Rukkila of Manistique Township died suddenly, Sunday, May 14, 2023, at 7:21 A.M. at the age of 68. David was born to Bill and Grace Rukkila. David lived in Manistique for the past 10 years, previously living in California and Bull Head, Arizona. He was raised in Munising and worked with the Johnson Brothers, Bob and Dick Oas, and Greg Anderson’s Landscaping, he worked mostly as a laborer in general carpentry. During the holidays he picked balsam boughs for Christmas wreathes. He loved dogs and had a special fondness for Curly and Willow. He loved fishing in the Anna River, it was said, he’d leave school, and be at the river before the school bus crossed the bridge.
He's survived by his partner of 33-years - Lorraine Bonneau of Manistique; daughter Marlis Wettschreck of Enterprise, Alabama; Stepson, Joshua (Kelly) Bonneau of Williamsburg, VA. 2 sisters; Diane Rukkila and Patricia Granger and 3 brothers, Bill Parks, Robert Rukkila and John Parks, special niece Patty and Scott Steinhoff, special cousin Mandy Snyder; 6 grandchildren: Kenya, Chloe, Abby, Caden, Megan, and Chase, also numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Grace Rukkila.
There will be visitation at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by a Ceremonial Drum event.
