David Leon Perry, Sr., age 67, of Monette Road, Munising, died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin following a lengthy illness. He was born on March 28, 1947 in Munising to the late Raymond and Myrtle (Barker) Perry. Dave attended school at Wm. G. Mather and then joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Hawaii where he met and married Linda Walters. They were transferred to Fort Knox, Kentucky and they were raising their young family when David was honorably discharged. He worked as the supervisor for the Louisville Housing Authority. The family then moved to Michigan and David went to work at Timber Products. He was injured on the job and forced to retire after his accident. David did go back to work at the Kewadin Casino where he worked as a pit boss. Once again, his health failed and he had to stop working. In the fall of 2013, David was a recipient of a lung transplant and he was able to enjoy doing things again. He enjoyed fishing, walking, and spending time with his grandkids.
David is survived by his son - David Perry, Jr. of Munising; his daughter - Rae Marie Perry of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren- Ashly Lynn Weiland, Shawn Launderville, and Stephanie Launderville; great-grandchildren - Brandon Weiland, Tye Hase, Tristan Hase, and Trent Hase; siblings - Jeffrey (Wilma) Perry, Bobby (Patsy) Perry, Tim (JoAnn) Perry, Todd (Peggy) Perry, Edna Paine, and Cindy (Tom) Hoy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Dolores Thompson and Sandy Fetterhoff.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors at 6:00 p.m.
