Dean R. Frederick

Dean R. Frederick, age 82, a resident of Munising, Michigan went home to be with his Lord on April 1, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Born on March 9, 1932 in Jerome, Michigan, he was the son of Ivan and Violet (Leutz) Frederick.  Dean was a graduate of Pittsford High School in 1949.  He worked for the State of Michigan Game Division in 1952 until he entered the U.S. Army.  Dean went to the Military Police School in Fort Knox, Kentucky and started military police duty at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  He went overseas to Shape Headquarters in Versailles, France and then transferred to Verdun, France.  Dean was honorably discharged in October of 1954.  He went back to work with the State of Michigan and was transferred in 1954 to the Cusino Wildlife Experiment Station in Shingleton.              He met the love of his life, Bonnie Jeanne Bugg in Munising.  They were married on July 2, 1955.  He then started working at the Kimberly-Clark Company until his retirement in 1990, with over 34 years of service.  He served on the Munising Township Board as a clerk for 5 years and a trustee for 16 years.  Dean was a member of the Munising Baptist Church for nearly 60 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, bus driver, and on the Church Board.  He was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising and selling Christmas trees to the local community.  Dean enjoyed looking for agates with Bonnie in Grand Marais at Agate Beach.  They also liked to travel together and take rides in the woods and bird hunt.  He also enjoyed ice fishing, finding morel mushrooms, and hunting, harvesting over 75 deer.  Dean had many good times with his family and friends.             He is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years - Bonnie; five children -  Rodney (Mary Burrows) Frederick of Munising, Todd (Rose Dietrich) Frederick of Sparta, Michigan, Cathy (Brian) Gurski of Munising, Guy Frederick of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Kristine Frederick of Munising;  thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters  -  Roberta (Don) Fulmer and Illene (Myron) Basom;  sisters and brothers-in-law  - Ruth Frederick, Barb Pease, Bernard Bugg and James Bugg; numerous nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend and hunting partner - Richard Moorehead.  Dean was preceded in death by his mother and father,  two brothers - Richard and Ivan, Jr., and sister-in-law - Carolyn "Carrie" Cook.             Visitation and services will be held at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore on Saturday, April 5, 2014.  The visitation time will be from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Dean's funeral service at 2:00 at the church.  A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.  Interment will be at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore in the spring where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guards will conduct military honors.
