Debra Kay "Deb" McPherson, age 56, of E12124 Percy Road, died at her home under the loving care of family and North Woods Hospice on Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2012 following her courageous five year battle with cancer. She was born on March 15, 1956 in Stanwood, Michigan to the late Ronald and Esther (Stilson) Griswold. Deb moved the U.P. in 1990 and worked at a number of local restaurants, Commission on Aging, and the Lake Shore Manor, before starting at the Michigan State University Extension. While at the MSU Extension, she worked with the food and nutrition program where the kids knew her as "Miss Deb" running the Kids are Cooks as well as many other youth education programs. She married Robin McPherson on December 22, 2001. Deb enjoyed gardening, hiking, camping, fishing, boating, and Lake Superior.

She is survived by her husband - Robin McPherson of Shingleton; daughter - Lori Griswold of Shingleton; three brothers - Terry (Susan) Griswold of Morley, MI, William "Bill" Griswold of Big Rapids, MI, and Mike (Pat) Griswold of Stanwood, MI; three sisters - Ronda Thorpe of Stanwood, Cinda Arndt of Stanwood, and LaDona (Larry) Flanegan of Grant, MI; mother-in-law - Marlene McPherson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deb was preceded in death by her daughter Stacey Griswold (1978), parents Ronald and Esther, and brother Rex Griswold (2008).

A celebration of Deb's life will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Lake Shore Manor in Munising at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Deb's name to the American Cancer Society or Cancer society of your choice. Deb's family would like to thank all of the community for their thoughts, prayers, and helpfulness, especially the crew at Putvin's and Marlene McPherson.
