Delbert "Del" F. Atherton, Jr., age 96, of Williamston, Michigan and formerly of Limestone, died early Friday morning, January 9, 2015 at the Highland Alzheimer's Care Facility in Jackson, Michigan. He was born on December 16, 1918 in Curran, Michigan to Delbert and Eva (Brothers) Atherton, Sr., Del grew up in the Traunik area and attended school there. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army and after the War; he went to work for Oldsmobile. Del worked for over twenty-eight years for the company. After his retirement, he moved back to Limestone in 1979. Del was a member of the AFL-CIO Union, UAW Local #552 in Lansing, the N.R.A., and the Michigan Conservation Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and getting together with friends.
Del is survived by his children Dennis (Jean) Atherton of Williamston, MI., Carol (Dick) Becks of Cusick, WA, Mike (Vicky) Atherton of Bullhead City, AZ, and Mary Taylor of Inverness, FL. Eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; siblings - Virginia Tweedale of Chatham and Chuck (Carol) Atherton of Trenary; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter - Rena Atherton, and siblings Joyce Atherton, Sheila Yokeum, Vera Morin, Doris Rock, and Kim Atherton.
Graveside services will be held at the Limestone Township Cemetery on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. Pastor George Chouinard will conduct the prayers and members of the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
