Trenary
Dirk A. Wilson, Sr. age 82, of Trenary, died Thursday, August 8, 2024 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Home Hospice. Dirk was born on April 21, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Melvin and Delilia (Richardson) Wilson. Dirk was proud to serve in the Air Force and shortly after found his forever love, Darlene. They were married after only six months and spent the next 58 years together. Their lives together began in Wisconsin where they had seven children before moving to Michigan in 1978 to raise them. Dirk’s life was built around his wife and family. Dirk and Darlene were rarely apart throughout their marriage. They had an incredible love (and tolerance) for one another. Dirk and Darlene owned and operated The Hub Café Truck Stop in Trenary for many years serving the community and travelers. They ran their business together and they built a life that worked for them.
Dirk enjoyed building anything that came to mind, he could always figure it out and find a way. He loved working with his hands and did not like to sit idle for too long. He built a Model A car from the frame up and was so proud of it. He was always ready with a joke, even if you were not ready to hear it. Dirk loved watching his favorite TV shows and had an opinion or comment for every minute of it. Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, drawing, writing short poems and creating new ways to do things were some of the things he loved.
Dirk is survived by his children Vickie, Dirk Jr., Duane, Diane, Dean, and Marnie; his sister Delight Mass; several nieces and nephews; 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Dirk was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Delilia; wife Darlene (Niedzwiecki); brothers Allen, Gary, Errol and Jerry and his daughter Susan (Wilson) Tiernan.
We take this time of sadness with a little grace knowing he is reunited with those lost over the years.
A memorial gathering and military honors with close family and friends will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Dirk’s home in Trenary. Military honors will be rendered at 3:00 p.m. by the Alger County Veterans Honor Guard with visiting time to follow until 5:00 p.m.
