Trenary
Dolores M. Matekel, age 72, of Second Avenue, Trenary, joined her best friend on the dance floor of eternity on Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2011 at her home following a year long illness. She was born on March 28, 1939 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Frank and Tyne (Lakanen) Silta. Dolores was raised in the Skandia and Dukes area and graduated from Graveraet High School. On June 15, 1957, she married John Matekel. Dolores worked many places over her lifetime. She worked at a dental office, seasonally at Heath's Greenhouse in Skandia, school bus driver for Trenary schools, bus aide for the Marquette Alger Intermediate School District, and she retired as a Teacher's Aide for the Sandy Knoll Elementary School. Dolores and John loved dancing together and enjoyed the dances in Trenary. They were married almost fifty years when John preceded her in death on May 20, 2007. Dolores was a member of St. Rita's Church. She enjoyed decorating, working in her yard and she loved shopping for her children and grandchildren. She made sure they had everything that she thought they needed and that she wanted them to have - even if they didn't. Dolores also enjoyed traveling and recently had some special trips to Florida with family and friends.
She is survived by her children - Vickie (Mark) Isaacson of Gladstone, Steven Matekel of Hillpoint, WI and Michelle (Craig) Bahrke of Oconto, WI; grandchildren - Jacob and Lauren Isaacson, Hannah, Kate and Eli Bahrke; brothers - Melvin (Sharlet) Silta of Skandia and John (Marcia) Silta of Gladstone; in-laws - Shirley Silta of Skandia, Mary (Walter) Tuuri of Kiva and Helen Matekel of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, daughters Leann Marie in 1972 and Amy Jo in 2002, brother Raymond Silta and sister Lorraine Plezia.
