Don "Duck" Miron

Wetmore Donald "Don" Duck" Miron, age 69, of Knox Street in Wetmore, died unexpectedly early Wednesday Morning, May 1, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on October 18, 1943 in Wetmore, Michigan to the late Gordon and Emma (Olson) Miron. Duck graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1962. On July 2, 1966 Don married his sweetheart since seventh grade Janet L. Raymond. Duck began his employment with Kimberly Clark on January 15, 1963 as a utility helper in the labor pool. He worked in various areas of the mill including the Pilot Plant from July 29, 1963 until January 18, 1965. With the shutdown of the Pilot Plant, Duck returned to the labor pool and on February 4, 1974 and posted into the Service Operations Department as a labor progressing to Shipper-Checker. Duck retired from the Munising Mill of Kimberly-Clark Corporation on December 28, 1998. He enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley. Duck was a Lifetime Member of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) and a member of the Local Marquette Chapter. His biggest passion was his woodworking. Duck created hundreds of pieces ranging from doll chairs and cradles, trucks, trains, cars, a Ferris wheel, desks, entertainment centers, and even a furnished replica of the East Channel Lighthouse. He was very generous with his time and talent often donating to the Toys for Tots, Alger County DHS giving program, and to benefit raffles to support local families. Duck is survived by his loving wife of over forty-six years - Janet of Wetmore; sisters - Anita Hase and Jean (Harold) Johns; brothers - Allen Miron and William Balko all of Wetmore; brothers and sisters-in-law - Robert and Betty Raymond, Sandy and Dave Case, Roberta Ley, and Terry Raymond; father-in-law - Harris "Bud" (Lee Kangas) Raymond; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents - Gordon and Emma; siblings - Gordon Miron, Jr., Harriet (Jack) (Jim) Latvala Fitzgerald, and Norman (Evelyn) Balko; brothers-in-law - Walter "Bud" Hase, Jeff Raymond, and Douglas Ley; sister-in-law - Ruth Balko, and mother-in-law - Beatrice Raymond. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Duck's funeral at 3:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. ***Duck's committal service will be Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore.
