Donald "Buddy" Dolan, age 73, of Vulcan Street, Iron Mountain and formerly of Chatham, died on Friday morning, May 2, 2008 at the Dickenson County Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born on January 29, 1935 in Chatham to Leo and Lillian (Kallio) Dolan. Buddy grew up and attended school in Chatham where he was baptized and confirmed in the National Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church. Buddy worked for the J & F Brisson and Richmond-Hawley sawmills. He was known for his physical strength and could carry two railroad ties at a time on his shoulders while loading a railroad box car. After the death of his parents, Buddy moved to the Iron River area where he worked at a sawmill until retirement. He faithfully attended the Church of Christ in Escanaba and Iron River. Buddy learned the art of massage from Art Maki and enjoyed giving massages.
He is survived by numerous cousins and he was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Lillian and his brother James "Jim" Dolan. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Pastor Paul D. Kelto will conduct Buddy's funeral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham. Escorts and honorary escorts will be cousins and friends - Leslie Kallio, David Johnson, Don Johnson, Joe Goin, Jim Goin, Roy Aho, Charles Vassar, Lawrence McNally, Dan Johnson, Bernie Kallio, Bill Kallio, Rev. Harold Kallio, and John Sturvist.
