Trenary
Donald E. “Don” Nuernberg, age 49, of Trenary, died Saturday morning, October 29, 2016 in Muskegon, Michigan due to apparent heart complications. Don was born on January 7, 1967 in Lansing, Michigan, son of Donald and Lena (Wright) Nuerenberg. He graduated from Trenary High School in 1985. Don started with the Army Reserves at the age of seventeen while still in high school. After graduation, he entered in the U.S. Navy. Don was a member of the Seabees and worked as a Construction Electrician 2nd Class. He was a Veteran of Foreign War serving a tour in Iraq, and was also stationed in Somalia, Panama, Barcelona, and Adak, Alaska. Don was honorably discharged on January 16, 1996 as a Petty Officer. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Management, and became a Maintenance Supervisor and worked at three different plants. Don enjoyed the challenges and problem solving of his job, and was working for Northwest Hardwoods in Byron Center, MI at the time of his death. Don enjoyed fishing, camping, playing corn hole, and spending time at bonfires. He made great salsa and enjoyed canning. He was always willing to help neighbors with yardwork and firewood. Don played video games with his kids, enjoyed billiards, and was an Oakland Raiders football fan. He will always be remembered for giving good advice to his children (whether they wanted it or not), and Don was always looking after his kids and grandkids. He would take on the weight of the world for his children and always put them ahead of his own needs.
Don is survived by children – Donald J.W. Nuernberg II of Escanaba, Andrew A. Nuernberg of Menominee, and BranDee Skye Nuernberg of Menominee; fiancé – Subi Hallinen of Trenary; grandchildren – Zayden Atreyu, Macy Jo, Kinlii Abagail Isis, Aria Alesana Cerulli, Maddix Julian Steven, Zoey Joy Nichole, Riley Aaron Russell, Sophia Marie, and Malorie Lynn; siblings – Gary I. (Barbara) Nuernberg of Chatham, Brenda (John) Bossi of Meril, MI, Jamie (Robert) Hoffman of Flint, MI, Lonnie J. (Sherrie) Nuernberg of Harrison, MI, Cathy Billings of Crystal, MI, Donna Nuernberg-Wiser Barbara “Bobbie” Owens; mother of his children – Tracey Lynn Sexton of Gladstone; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Lena Nuerenberg, birth mother Judy Owens, and niece Anna Jane Nuernberg.
Services will be on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Rev. Nathan Langager will conduct Don’s funeral at 4:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date at the Mathias Township Cemetery where the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
