Dorothy Mae Beauchine, age 83, of 607 W. Superior Street, Munising, died on Monday afternoon, May 11, 2009 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on October 25, 1925 in Kingsford, Michigan to Henry and Ida (Laux) Beauchamp. Dorothy attended schools in Kingsford through eleventh grade. She had painted a portrait of each football player which they used as a placard at their banquet. In 1946, Dorothy graduated from Iron Mountain High School. She then went on to attend the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit for three years. During WWII, Dorothy drew a poster with ink of the names who enlisted in service for the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Dorothy worked at the Munising Woodenware in the Arts Department where she hand painted wooden bowls and spoons. She volunteered much of her art talent and time for various organizations.
On June 2, 1951, Dorothy married the love of her life, David Beauchine at the American Martyrs Catholic Church. They made their home in Munising and together raised their two sons. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. She and David were faithful members of Sacred Heart Church in Munising.
Dorothy is survived by her loving and adoring husband of almost fifty-eight years - David Beauchine of Munising; their sons and daughter-in-law - Michael and Laurie Beauchine and Robert Beauchine all of Munising; sisters and brothers - Joyce (Jim) Lester of Dexter, MI, Ronald (Diane) Beauchamp of Rubicon, WI, Robert Beauchamp of Waynesboro, VA, June (Don) Rittenhouse of Felch, MI, and Margaret (Jim) Boulanger of Pelican Lake, WI; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. An American Legion Auxiliary and Parish Vigil Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Ben Paris at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
