Munising
Dorothy Ann Kusmirek, age 84, of Munising, died early Tuesday evening, July 27, 2010 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. Daughter of William and Florence (Roy) Heminger, she was born on February 23, 1926 in Marquette, Michigan. Dorothy was raised in Limestone by her grandparents, Homer and Ida Roy. She married Paul Howard in 1941. They briefly moved to Detroit, but mostly lived north of Shingleton. Dorothy was a homemaker and raised their three children. Paul was killed in an automobile accident on August 1, 1963. She worked as a waitress at the Three Pines, the Blue Spruce, and at the golf course. On December 11, 1965, Dorothy married Stanley Kusmirek. They were married over forty-two years when he preceded her in death on December 20, 2007. Dorothy enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to garage sales, and shopping.
She is survived by children - Jerry (Beverly Ann) Howard of VanMeer and Carol Howard of Marquette; daughter-in-law - April Howard of Wetmore; step-children - Thomas Kusmirek of Munising, Stan "Skip" Kusmirek Jr. of Munising, Barbara (Bob) Hoos of Burton, MI, Judith Harmon of Eben, MI, and Kathi (Murray) Donnelly of Munising; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brothers - Lawrence (Glenda) Heminger and Raymond (Mary) Heminger all of Gulliver Lake, Michigan; aunt - Arbutus "DeDe" Snyder of Gulliver; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Paul and Stanley and her son Jim Howard.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Dorothy's funeral service will be conducted by her son Jerry Howard and will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
