Dorothy Anna Morrison

Dorothy Anna Morrison, age 97, of Grand Marais, died following a brief illness on Thursday afternoon, August 15, 2024 at U.P. Health System – Marquette. She was born on June 6, 1927 in Grand Marais to John and Mary (Hart) Peterson. Dorothy was raised in Grand Marais. She married Raymond Morrison and the family moved to Chicago. Dorothy waitressed at different restaurants in the Chicago area while raising her sons. Dorothy moved back home to Grand Marais in 1987. She was an active and faithful member of Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais. Dorothy sang in the Holy Rosary and Community Choirs. She was also active in the Grand Marais community and enjoyed walking her daily three miles no matter the weather. Dorothy enjoyed reading and treasured her time sitting on her porch in quiet time or with others. 

 Dorothy is survived by her sons – Larry (Terri) Morrison of Munster, Indiana and John (Toni Whaley) Morrison of Grand Marais; grandchildren – Brandi (John) Pulleyblank, Jeffrey (Juwairia) Morrison, John Morrison, Barbara Morrison, Wendy (Steve) Sohl, Sara (Raymond) Scaife, and Jenny (Ben) Cooley; numerous great grandchildren; sisters – Iva Rubenstein, Theresa Swain, Janice Moss, and Janet Peacock; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Peterson, her son William “Bill” Morrison, friend John LeClair; and siblings Francis “Dud” Peterson, Lawrence “Elmer” Peterson, William “Bill” Peterson, Marilyn Johnson, and Regina Hughey.

 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow in the basement of the church following Mass.   Interment will be at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Grand Marais.
