Dorothy Prain, age 92, of Munising and formerly of Gaylord, died Monday, April 16, 2018 at the MediLodge of Munising. She was born on March 20, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Henry and Martha Balow. Dorothy graduated from St. Bernard High School in Detroit. She married George Prain in 1946, and together they raised their daughter Vicky. Dorothy was a homemaker, and she and her family lived in Bloomfield Hills for many years. They moved to Gaylord in 1980 and were active members of St. Mary’s Cathedral. Dorothy enjoyed living on Navajo Trail on Long Lake and watching and feeding the wildlife. Dorothy was a loving mother and adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter - Vicky Lacy of Munising; grandsons – Adam (Amanda) Lacy of Marquette and Michael Lacy of Munising; great-grandchildren – Chasie, Savannah, and Barrett; siblings – David (Barbara) Balow, Gloria Summar, Barbara McGoldrick, Donald (Colette) Balow, and Paul Balow; and numerous nieces and newphews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband George, fraternal twin brother Joseph Balow, and brothers-in-law Walter Summar and Charles McGoldrick.
Interment will be at the Resurrection Cemetery in Vanderbilt, MI on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
